Custom Ponies - What are they and what makes R E Ward Art special
Custom My Little Ponies are like any customized toy. They are something the artist takes from the original factory produced toy line and brings new life to. Many times a custom My Little Pony has been loved well by its former owner to the point that it is no longer collectible. My Little Ponies from all generations are highly collectible and there is a big following of both the older and newer My Little Ponies. There are four generations of My Little Pony, which are produced by Hasbro and I am willing to customize all generations. I am also a collector of My Little Pony and will not use a good condition toy nor will I destroy a highly valuable rare pony.
Having been customizing ponies for over 3 years, I have developed new techniques and mastered common ones to be able to achieve exactly what I want to with each custom. I also am not so close minded as to experiment with new products and techniques. I am constantly challenging myself to do more and achieve more with this medium.
Each of my customs is a work of art and OOAK (one of a kind). I never repeat my work. I will do similar projects but never exactly the same. So if you commission or purchase art from me, you will never see another one exactly like it.
I spend numerous hours toiling over each project that I do, sometimes taking hours contemplating simple things like crystal placement just to make sure that it is exactly what I want. I am a bit of a perfectionist and will not debut work until I feel like it is ready. Sometimes I get so invested in a certain project that they take on a life of their own and tell me when they are done. If given a deadline, I always achieve what the client (and I) dream up within the given timeframe. All that I ask is that if a specific deadline is needed, please advise me before hand.
There are many steps to customizing ponies that I do. I start by removing all the factory hair and paint. Depending on the custom, it will then go through one of three steps, sculpting, airbrushing or symbol painting. Then the custom gets new eyes. All paint work is then sealed for protection. Then time for new hair, which is firmly secured inside the pony for durability. The hair is then styled (normally with hair jewelry). I do try and make every pony so that hair styling can be removed and if it cannot be, I always make sure to mention it. After that, it's time for embellishments and blush. Now although it doesn't sound like so many steps, each step can take up to 15 hours (for sculpt work and complicated paint work). If bases are desired or needed, those are made simultaneously with the custom pony, to make sure everything fits with the piece.
